NOT Slope

A game called NOT Slope, in which you roll a ball down an endless chute. Yes, we know.

You drop into deep space onto a ribbon of glowing slabs that never ends. Steer left and right. The slope gets steeper, the ball gets faster (past 200 km/h), and the track gets stranger: pillars, wall gates with a window to thread, ramps that launch you into a long flight, gaps you have to clear at speed, bends that throw you outward. There are no side rails after the first 160 m. If you leave the track, you fall. The HUD shows the live slope as a fraction (RISE 1 / RUN 3 = 0.34), because this is the only game that tells you the slope while insisting it is NOT Slope.

This is a complete rework of my 2022 prototype, rebuilt in Unity 6 with no third-party models, textures or audio. Every mesh is generated by code, every surface is a shader, every sound effect and every note of the music is synthesised.

What's in it

  • An endless, generated chute that is fair by construction: a bot plays thousands of seeded tracks before every release, and a perfect bot finishes every one. If you die, it was you.
  • Four sectors every 1000 m: Yellow Slabs (the 2022 look), Magenta Grid, Ice Deck and Red Giant, each with its own sky, palette and music key
  • Ramp jumps and BIG AIR: a cyan arch warns you, a boost pad launches you, and a long flight pays a combo. Gems, boost pads, near misses and big jumps build a multiplier up to x8 that multiplies your distance score
  • A Daily Run: the same track for everyone each day, with a ghost of your best run
  • Four balls unlocked by distance (classic, chrome, lava, maths grid) and fourteen trophies
  • Generated sound and music: a tonal rolling hum that rises with your speed, a tick for every seam in the track, wind, and a music layer that kicks in as you speed up
  • The dot-matrix LED look of the 2022 title and score, kept and built on
  • Two buttons: A / D or the arrow keys, a gamepad stick, or hold the mouse or a finger on the left or right half of the screen. Space or Enter retries, Esc goes back to the menuThen and now

The 2022 game was one scene and two scripts: a physics ball that fell off randomly rotated slabs, a fake "HI:999" on the menu, no sound. 2.0 kept the name joke, the yellow slabs in the green nebula, the LED letters, the two-button play and the instant retry, and rebuilt everything else around a deterministic simulation.

The original (2022)

Both original builds are still on this page as downloads, exactly as I uploaded them in March 2022. They are Unity WebGL folders, so they need to be served from a web server (for example npx serve in the unzipped folder).

Good to know

  • Made with Unity 6 (URP). Plays in the browser with no install, and there are also Windows, Linux and Android downloads. The Android build is an APK for landscape phones: hold the left or right half of the screen to steer. It is brand new, so tell me how it runs on your phone.
  • Made by Code Scrambler. Feedback is very welcome.
